What is Intersegmental Traction?

Intersegmental Traction is a therapy that utilizes special equipment to flex and exercise the vertebrae within the spine. It is a highly effective treatment for treating a variety of back and spinal ailments. This includes reducing muscle spasms. Intersegmental Traction promotes regeneration of tissue and aids in nourishing spinal discs. It has been shown to help with stretching tendons and ligaments to their normal length, as well. It also helps to restore a normal range of motion in those with mobility issues.

When the muscles around the spine are injured, they can cause pain and spasms. This can be caused by accidents, injury, fatigue, poor posture, etc. As you undergo this therapy, your muscles relax. This helps limit spasms, and relieve pain. Additionally, this therapy can be helpful for patients with pinched nerves.

How Does It Work?

Intersegmental Traction therapy uses a special table that has built-in rollers which move up and down the length of your body. The rollers in the table gently coax the spine toward normal ranges for the body. The traction also helps the muscles of the back to relax and can reduce spasms. Overall, this treatment can help speed up the recovery process of back injuries. When the treatment moves the spinal column, the body responds by increasing the flow of blood and spinal fluid to the area. This causes vital nutrients and oxygen to flow more effectively into the spinal discs. In turn, patients see an increase in mobility, stability, strength, and balance.
